“Thank You for Helping Save My Husband’s Life.”

Sabine Marsico’s husband, William, had kidney stones and had just taken an antibiotic prescribed by his doctor. Within 5 minutes, his lips started tingling and going numb. The couple realized he was experiencing an allergic reaction and Sabine immediately called their doctor, who instructed her to take William to the hospital for observation.

By the time they got to the car, the tingling had spread to his fingers. They had been traveling on the interstate for just a couple minutes when William suddenly grabbed his throat and motioned that he couldn’t breathe. As he pushed the red OnStar emergency button, Sabine quickly pulled over to the side of the road. William was going into anaphylactic shock.

“The first thing I said to the Advisor who answered the call was ‘My husband can’t breathe!’,” Sabine says of that terrifying moment. “Thank God the Advisor remained calm because I knew I was not. Shock had set in. I was scared to death that I would lose my husband on the side of the interstate. All I saw was my husband’s face turning from red to blue.”

Sabine says the Advisor asked all the right questions and immediately got the 911 operator on the call.

“If we didn’t have OnStar I don’t think I could even have found my cell phone, let alone dialed it or told the 911 operator our location. I couldn’t think straight. I vaguely remember the Advisor calmly telling the 911 operator our location and the little details I was able to give her regarding the medication William had taken and his symptoms. She stayed on the line with us until emergency help arrived and took him to the hospital.”
