Son's Crash Has Mom Frantic
It started out like an ordinary morning at the office for Dawn Price. When her cell phone rang, she was busy and couldn’t pick up. Ten minutes later, when she had a chance to check the message, nothing was normal anymore.
Her son Michael had been on his way to work when he was cut off while rounding a curve on the freeway. His new car — which he’d only had two months — spun off the guardrail, turned completely around and finally stopped when it smashed into the water barrels. The OnStar Advisor was immediately connected into the car. She talked to Michael, who was hurt and disoriented. She calmed him, asked him questions about his condition, arranged for police and emergency personnel to respond to his location and stayed with Michael until help arrived. That’s when he called his mom.
“I had to get to him”
When Dawn got Michael’s message, she was frantic. “He may be 20 years old, but he’s still my baby,” she says. “I called him back immediately. He was so shook up, he didn’t even know where he was. I had to get to him.”
So Dawn called OnStar. “The Advisor was a sweetheart,” she says. “He calmed me down — I think I was as upset as Michael. He stayed on the line and guided me to the crash site. I couldn’t have gotten there without him.”
When Dawn saw Michael’s car, her first words to him were, “You’ve got more than one guardian angel looking out for you.” His car was totaled. An ambulance took Michael to the hospital. He was badly bruised and in shock, but otherwise OK.
“I thank God every day that Michael had OnStar in his vehicle,” Dawn says. “I know I’ll never have another car without it. I just wish all cars had the capability of having OnStar.”
