Wife Panics When Husband’s Car Suddenly Disappears from Sight
My husband, Wayne, and I left our home early one morning to head to the hospital. Wayne was having arthroscopic knee surgery that day. We were following each other because after his surgery, I was continuing on to my parents’ home several hours away because my dad was having pacemaker surgery the next day. On the way to the hospital, Wayne stopped to pick up a family friend who had volunteered to drive Wayne home after the surgery.
There was little traffic on the road that early in the day. I was in front of the guys and was keeping my eye on them in the rearview mirror. About 25 miles into our drive, there was a slight incline on the highway and then a slight curve. One second they were behind me, the next moment I noticed a big black cloud of smoke but no car. I thought they must have had engine trouble and pulled over to wait for them. After three cars passed me by — but not Wayne’s — I made a U-turn and drove back a short distance, but they were nowhere in sight.
I started to panic. It was like they had vanished.
A frantic, helpless feeling
Finally I spotted the car — it was upside down in a swampy area 6 to 8 feet deep off the shoulder of the highway. I didn’t see any movement and was worried the car might explode. I knew I didn’t have much time. I had my cell phone but realized if I called OnStar, they could get to my location a lot faster.
Thanks to the OnStar Advisor, the police, ambulance and tow truck soon arrived. The emergency responders helped the guys right away. Miraculously Wayne and our friend escaped with cuts and bruises. We even got Wayne to the hospital in time for his knee surgery. Thank you, thank you, thank you, OnStar, for getting help to us so fast.
