A Busy Chef Finds the Perfect Ingredients with Help from OnStar FMV
Torya Blanchard knows about taking risks.
The native Detroiter quit her job teaching French three years ago to pour her savings into an unusual business: making crepes. While most budding restaurateurs might have stayed with something more conventionally Midwestern, Torya chose a different path.
“There was this voice in my head that said ‘Do the crepe thing. No one is doing the crepe thing,’” she says.
She even chose an unconventional name for her restaurant, Good Girls Go to Paris Crepes, inspired by something her mother said to her (“only good girls go to Paris”) when a teenage Torya got in trouble just prior to a family trip to the city of lights.
This unconventional approach hasn’t hampered her: Business is booming and she’s now on the verge of opening a second location. While Detroit might seem an unlikely spot for her business, the availability of locally grown ingredients, including some made available through the city’s budding urban farming movement, has been a bonus for her business.
Knowing how busy she is, we thought she’d be an ideal candidate to try the new OnStar FMV, which allows you to add the safety and connectivity of OnStar to almost any vehicle. We joined Torya at the creperie to see her in action, then set off with her to hunt down ingredients for one of her favorite crepes.
You can see every bit of it in the accompanying video. And find out more about OnStar FMV, including reviews by FMV users, by checking out their stories on Connections. Or see more on Good Girls Go to Paris Crepes, including the menu and locations.
