Ellen DeMaris recently bought a new Chevrolet Equinox from a Chevrolet dealership in southeastern Michigan.
Was OnStar a selling point for Ellen? “Absolutely. I was hooked on OnStar the first time I saw a demonstration of how it worked many years ago. I thought at the time, ‘What a wonderful thing to have.’ And, after all this time, I still believe that.”
Ellen says she and her husband are a GM family. “Over the years, we’ve owned Cadillacs, Buicks and Chevrolets and enjoyed every one of them. But, no matter which vehicle we bought, the one thing they’ve all had in common was OnStar.”
Today’s new cars and trucks are more technologically advanced and offer a wider variety of safety features than vehicles built just a decade ago. But OnStar, with its suite of available services that includes Remote Door Unlock, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Automatic Crash Response and RemoteLink®(1) mobile app, has been offering subscribers safety and connectivity at the push of a button since 1996.
Paul, the general sales manager at the dealership, says OnStar’s ease of use and the number of available services make it a purchase factor for many new car buyers who choose GM vehicles.
“OnStar continues to be a key reason why folks return to the GM brand,” he says. “And for customers who have been driving a competitive make or are first-time buyers, demonstrating the OnStar system for safety/security, door unlock/remote start and more continues to be a key selling point. In fact, the availability of Automatic Crash Response often makes the difference between a sale or no sale.”
Something for Everyone
According to Paul, buyers cite different OnStar services as key considerations in their purchasing decisions: “Younger ‘millennial’ buyers seem to love the remote start/unlock features, the “techie” side of OnStar and the OnStar RemoteLink mobile app,” he says. “Older and first-time buyers — and their parents — love the remote unlock and Automatic Crash Response notification.”
What is Ellen’s favorite OnStar service? “I’m a financial analyst and I travel to clients’ homes. OnStar has always gotten me where I need to go, found hotels for me along the way and assisted me when I’ve needed help, like the time I had a flat tire on the highway. I rave about it all the time to my friends.”
Ellen says she and her husband also rely on OnStar when they go on vacation.
“My husband and I love to travel,” she says. “We especially enjoy taking scenic back roads, and OnStar has navigated our way through the East Coast and much of Canada without any problems. We’ve gotten to see so much. OnStar gives us our freedom with no fear.”
